Brand Transparency

Who answered our brand transparency questions?

Sophie Andersson – CEO at Anekdot.

Fair Trade

How do you ensure "Fair Trade" manufacturing? If your manufacturing or the manufacturing company you work with is certified, please list these certifications.

In our Berlin studio we are a team of 3 preparing for the productions. Also some made-to-order items are made from start to finish directly by us in the studio. The additional 5-6 local seamstresses work part-time from own homes/studios and are paid per piece. They decide themselves what times and which days of the week that suits them to sew and how much they can deliver. We meet regularly. We also work with small women-owned manufacturers in Poland who we trust, after I have personally visited them to meet the makers and make sure of fair work conditions.

Social Justice

How do you ensure "Social Justice" with your internal and external corporate environment?

We are a brand that highly encourage, include and value people from all background, cultures, personalities, shapes, skin tones. Whether it is within our team, the partners we work with or the women modelling our products. Our differences is what makes each one of us unique and precious.

Recycled Material

Which "Recycled Material" do you work with? What makes this material sustainable? And what makes it better compared to conventional material?

In addition to upcycling surplus fabrics left behind by the fashion industry we use certified recycled nylons made in Italy, having the highest percentage of recycled fibres and fine quality that we could find on the market: ECONYL® , Q-NOVA® , ROICA™.

Upcycled Material

Which "Upcycled Material" do you work with? What makes this material sustainable? And what makes it better compared to conventional material?

Anekdot is an upcycle brand. Since the expansion of the fashion industry has ended up with a tremendous amount of pre-consumer textile waste, we are committed to work with these already existing fabrics. We source the materials from production leftovers, end-of-lines, miscalculations, maker’s surplus, off-cuts, deadstock and vintage trimmings, directing waste away from landfill and conserving resources.

Zero Waste

Which processes in your supply chain are "Zero "Waste"?

1. Zero waste production: Using surplus as main material for our products. Plus that our own leftover fabrics are donated or sold to other local creatives or fully donated to art/education refugee projects. Our own super small off-cuts are re-used into small accessories, patchworks or fillings. 2. Made-to-order: We keep stock levels low to avoid unsold stock. Some items made-to-order. 3. Seasonless: product range not connected to seasons or fleeting fashion trends. 4. Some products exclusively available on our own webshop, to allow usage of fabrics available in very small amounts. 5. Repair service or advice for self-repair

How can you ensure that at least 50% of your total product range is "Vegan"?

We never buy new fabric that include animal related fibres. The silks used in the collection are the only materials we use that's related to animals, and we solely source it from factory surplus, that we rather upcycle into something meaningful for your everyday life than letting go to waste.

Give Back

Charity Social Integration

What organization do you donate to? Why is it important for your brand to "Give Back"?

We donate 50 cents to a charitable organization with every order made. In 2020 and 2021 we supported Rainforest Rescue, an organization fighting to protect and regenerate the tropical rainforest, by organizing protests, purchasing land to block the expansion of plantations, reforesting cleared land and more. This topic is close to our hearts not only because of the rainforest's high importance to fight climate change, but also to protect the extraordinary biodiversity of plants and animal species living in it. As 2021 was the worst year for the Amazon forest in record when deforestation and fires shrunk it like never before, we are continuing to support the same organization in 2022.

Cultural Support

How do you "culturally support" local traditions and communities, democratic politics and education, especially in the countries where your brand operates?

By producing big part of our collection in Berlin, we are supporting local creative talent by offering sewing jobs and educating with new stitch techniques.

Eco Packaging

You have indicated to use "Eco Packaging". What makes your packaging more sustainable than conventional packaging.

We use recycled paper and compostable mailers that are carbon negative, biodegradable and partly made from corn starch. No plastic whatsoever – even the tape we use is made from paper. We ship with minimal packaging using only the essential materials. No extra filling, as all material (also sustainable materials) uses our planet's resources to produce.
