Good Working conditions

Every single garment bearing the ColieCo label is handmade to order in our small, in-house studio in Sagres, Portugal. As we only manufacture in-house, we're able to guarantee that everyone involved in the construction of your lingerie and swimwear is treated fairly, is paid a fair living wage, and works in safe and comfortable conditions. Most brands audit the factories of their suppliers once or twice per year. We're able to guarantee the conditions our entire team is working under every single minute our studio is open.

Social Justice

ColieCo is proudly a female founded and run small business. We are strong mutual supporters of other small, female led and owned businesses with similar ethical standards and objectives through suppliers and contractors. ColieCo is also longstanding supporter of and donor to various human rights charities and campaign groups.

Animal Welfare

We commit to using zero animal-derived raw materials in any of our garments.

Materials / Ingredients

No product in the entire product range must fall under the LIST OF PROHIBITIONS. 100% of the total product range must meet at least one of the materials/ingredients criteria: CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCT, MADE WITH CERTIFIED ORGANIC MATERIAL, NATURAL, MADE WITH SUSTAINABLE RAW MATERIAL, RECYCLED, UPCYCLED, SCIENCE-BASED, SUSTAINABLE BLEND, ECO PATCHWORK.

Our RPET recycled polyester fabric is made in Europe from recycled PET plastic drink bottles and is sustainably sublimation printed for ColieCo in Portugal. Recycled polyester requires less energy to produce, with around 75% lower CO2 emissions when compared with virgin polyester. It also requires around 90% less water to manufacture. The fabric carries both OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 and Global Recycled Standard certifications.

Our mesh, scuba jersey and swimwear lycra fabrics are all sourced from suppliers who rescue line-ends, off-cuts and deadstock directly from end-manufacturers. This material can include very short lengths or entire rolls that have been rejected by manufacturers due to small flaws in the fabric, which mass-producing fast fashion brands are unwilling to work around. Historically, much of this fabric would have ended up in landfill or the incinerator - we're proud to give it a second chance at life!

All of the raw bamboo used to produce our bamboo viscose (both bamboo jersey and bamboo silk) fabrics is organically and sustainably grown in ECOCERT and FSC certified forests. The bamboo viscose is closed-loop processed, with both the chemicals and the water used to process the raw bamboo fibre captured and either reused or upcycled for use in upstream industry. Our bamboo jersey fabric carries OEKO-STeP Level III production process management certification and our bamboo silk fabric carries ISO 14000 Environmental Management certification.

Zero Waste Design

Our production processes are designed and continually improved to minimise waste and minimise energy consumption. All of our garments are handmade to order, ensuring that we are left with no unsold, end-of-line surplus stock. Our cutting process is also optimised to ensure we waste as little fabric as possible. Rather than bulk cutting - a process responsible for much of the textile waste produced by the fashion industry - we manually cut each pattern piece, meaning that we get best use from even the smallest pieces of fabric. Our purpose built studio is naturally and LED lit, and naturally air-conditioned.
