Brand Story

At Legado, we believe that handmade pieces are truly special, they tell a story. For the indigenous communities in Mexico, their craft is much more than a source of income, it's really part of their identity. Legado means legacy in Spanish. We think it is very important to preserve this legacy. Legado wants to celebrate this know-how and help preserve what has been passed down from generation to generation. We offer fashion accessories and home goods made from Mexican ancestral textiles collaborating directly with the local artisans.

Brand Transparency

Who answered our brand transparency questions?

Charlotte Duthoit – CEO at Legado.

Fair Trade

How do you ensure "Fair Trade" manufacturing?

Our objective is to promote Mexican ancestral craftsmanship and make our business profitable in the long term so we can keep giving work to the local artisans and really help them preserve their crafts. We are committed to following fair trade practices in all aspects of our business. We work directly with the artisans and they fix the costs. They are mainly female artisans and besides their craft activity they are also mums, farmers, cooks, or have any other activities so they all work from home at their own pace.

Social Justice

How do you ensure "Social Justice" with your internal and external corporate environment?

The people we work with are all treated equally and come from different backgrounds and experiences. What we value is their talent regardless of their origin, gender, skin color, religion or sexuality. We want to make sure the artisans are visible and recognized for their work.

Eco/Tech Material

Local Production

Where and why are your products manufactured "locally"?

We work directly with local artisans in Mexico that are keeping their ancestral craft alive. All our products are completely handmade. The artisans we work with are mainly women from indigenous communities. They work independently from home, at their own pace.

The common thread of Legado is the ancestral craft. We work starting form ancestral techniques from indigenous communities to create beautiful handmade products. The technique we use from now is the backstrap look, a prehispanic technique to weave textile and the hand embroidery.

Zero Waste

As all our products are completely handmade we offer very limited series.

How can you ensure that at least 50% of your total product range is "Vegan"?

The main materials we work with are natural fibers such as cotton or jute.
