Brand Story

For 15 years, Les Racines du Ciel (The Roots of Heaven) has been offering a clothing line by placing respect for humans, animals and nature at the heart of its collections. Named in homage to Romain Gary’s novel – Ecological Opus – our clothing line blends his philosophy with a timeless style, high quality basics that won’t go out of style; stylish garments that end up becoming a second skin. For winter the line of cocooning sweaters is mainly in alpaca, and for the summer, mainly in Egyptian organic cotton and linen. This timeless and noble collection – without any artificial – combines sensuality and art of living.

Organic Material

DezOrganic21_2

Which "Organic Material" do you work with? What makes this material sustainable? And what makes it better compared to conventional material?

Linen: Grown, spun and processed in Europe, our linen knitwear represents a model of sustainability made of the most ecological fiber there is. Linen does not need any pesticides keeping the production process naturally clean. Our linen is Oeko-Tex certified. Egyptian organic cotton is one of the best cottons grown in the world. Few bales of this product are harvested every year, to create a unique product with outstanding characteristics: a high resistance paired with a remarkable natural stretch without giving up the exclusive softness and silkiness of this fiber. Organic cotton: Because conventional cotton is one of the most polluting cultures (25% pesticides for 5% of cultivated land), we have chosen organically grown cotton only. Our organic cottons are GOTS certified. Alpacas live in harmony with nature in the Andean highlands. They have padded feet and gentle eating habits, leaving a much smaller footprint on the environment compared to other herding animals. Baby alpaca is among the finest grades of alpaca hair, 21-23 microns wide. It is considered as a supreme variety due to its durability and lightweight structure. Baby alpaca is warmer than wool, but has a very soft and glossy feeling similar to silk. We often use the natural shade of Alpaca without any dyeing process. We do not use any synthetic fibers.

Local Production

LocalNeuMärz10_7

Where and why are your products manufactured "locally"?

We have made the choice to produce our line in Europe - Portugal and Bulgaria, in family companies. We are closed to them, we know how they work, and their working condition. In Europe, the "international working organization" allows many rights for workers.

Eco Packaging
