What are your personal tips to stay fresh and hydrated during travels?
As I travel a lot, each day is different, but I always start my wellness routine with two teaspoons of the Alkalising Greens every morning in cold filtered water or coconut water for extra hydration. Also, on my mother´s advice, I drink 3 litres of water every day. Depending on where I am in the world, I try and find time to explore my new surroundings with a walk, hike or swim. I enjoy variety in my day – and if I feel like I’m getting stuck in a routine, I vary things to keep me motivated and inspired. I believe balance is key, so no extreme diets or fitness routines. I don’t believe in pushing the body to exhaustion and increasing cortisol levels through stress. “Easy does it, but do it” is my motto.
When did you realize that a balanced PH is so important for our health and wellbeing?
I was about to turn 50 and I felt sluggish and lethargic all the time. My nutritionist, Dr. Simone Laubscher, made me aware that too much processed food, sugar, caffeine, meat and alcohol will leave us with an acidic gut. By reducing acid-forming foods, and replacing them with nutrient-packed vegetables and fruits, the body can return to an alkaline state, rid itself of toxins and allow the digestive system and liver to rest and recuperate. For the body to work optimally the pH of blood sits in a narrow range of 7.35 -7.45, slightly alkaline, and the body does everything it can to maintain this value. We all need protein, we don’t store it, we have to eat it. Our Nourishing Protein is very clean, plant-based and contains no whey ingredients. It is full of vitamins, minerals, pro and prebiotics. I believe plant protein is easier to digest and better for you than whey or soy based proteins. I eat regularly three times a day but will often have a protein shake as a snack or meal if I’m on the go.
What is your favorite flavor and how do you mix your protein powder?
The chocolate protein is my favourite (it is also available in vanilla) – I will mix with Almond milk, sometimes throwing a banana or mixed berries depending on what’s in season (or in the fridge!).
Additionally to the SUPER ELIXIR, what else do you do for a balanced life?
I try and get a good nights sleep, 7 hours, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. I also take 30 minutes, for myself, when I first wake up to meditate. Making sure I get outside and enjoy nature for about 45 minutes is also important to me. I keep it simple. I define myself by my joy and wellness factor. It is up to the individual to discover what will make their heart and body sing. Being a Mother I do want to be a healthy and happy example for my kids.
