Surrounded by ancient stones and quiet countryside, I felt like I had stepped out of time.

Sitting in the back seat of the car, watching the English landscape unfurl in endless shades of green, the road curves gently through soft hills and quiet farmland. The air is cool and clean, carrying that earthy scent of early autumn, and I find myself breathing a little slower. As we drive deeper into Northumberland, I’m reminded of why I love England — for its beautiful, wide, green countryside.

About twenty-five minutes after leaving Newcastle Airport, we arrive at Matfen Hall — a historic estate nestled in the heart of Northumberland’s parkland. Originally built in the early 19th century, it feels like a place that exists slightly outside of time. Inside, I’m welcomed by the soft crackle of a fireplace in the grand hall and handed a cup of English tea, still steaming. The old stone walls, soaring ceilings, and gentle warmth begin to slow me down.
The stately home has been carefully restored — honoring its original architecture, a love for detail, and thoughtfully curated interiors. Beautiful English wallpapers and textiles bring style and character to every space.
