Upcycling, which is the process of creatively transforming old and unused materials or products into new and innovative items, has become the latest buzzword in the world of sustainability. This practice encourages individuals and businesses to reduce waste and conserve resources by repurposing or refurbishing existing materials instead of disposing of them in landfills. It has gained popularity in recent years as people have become more aware of the damaging effects of consumerism and the importance of preserving the environment for future generations. So, if you’re looking to make a positive impact on the planet, shop at these sustainable brands with upcycled collections we love.

Yahmo is a Berlin-based sustainable fashion brand that uses environmentally friendly upcycled materials in their bomber jacket collection. They blend vintage patterns and colors with contemporary silhouettes. Yahmo has a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment and the people who make their clothes, crafting them in a fair working environment in Mumbai, India following high labor standards. The founders, Isabell Winter and Johannes Pautzke, came across beautiful sari remnants during a trip in India in 2016 which inspired their first product, an upcycled sari bomber jacket, and laid the foundation for their fair fashion label YAHMO. Yahmo mainly uses Cupro, Tencel and organic cotton. Additionally, they use durable sofa upholstery fabrics from a small upholstery shop in Mumbai for their Reversible Sofa Bomber jackets. They ensure that their products are made by tailors in Mumbai who receive more than a living wage and work in safe and friendly environments.

That’s where upcycling comes in, and it’s where my passion lies” says Jeanette. She creates unique designs using sustainable and certified fabrics, such as organic cotton, hemp, linen, silk, wool, and recycled materials. Operating in a Berlin-Neukölln-based home studio, she uses a made-to-order system to produce sustainable fashion that combines loud elements and extreme contrasts in perfect harmony, while preserving our planet.
