I love ear piercings. Besides classic lobes, I have one high lobe, one conch, three helix, one of which I got in Sydney and one in New York City. A good piercer pays attention to the piercing angle and how the jewelry looks, especially important with permanent earrings. What else you should pay attention to, especially if you don’t want to remove the ear piercings, is that the clasp is flat or that you use a ring so that it doesn’t hurt when you lie on it. As an alternative, if you don’t want to have your ears pierced, ear cuffs are ideal. In terms of material choice, solid 14/18K gold is considered the safest metal for sensitive ears, along with titanium, surgical stainless steel, platinum and niobium. The brands Pamela Love, Wwake and Melissa Joy Manning are based in New York City and each have their own store in Brooklyn. You can even book a piercing appointment with Pamela Love in Williamsburg.

About The Brand
Inspired by Pamela’s fascination with astrology, tarot and folklore, she founded her brand in 2007 in her Brooklyn home. All of the metal used in her jewelry is recycled. “Our gemstones are ethically sourced and conflict-free in accordance with United Nations resolutions. All of the stones used in our unique pieces come from the upcycling of antique and estate jewelry or from post-consumer sources”, their website says. PAMELA LOVE offers a wide range of different piercings and you can make an appointment for a piercing with expertly trained staff in their Brooklyn store here.

About The Brand
Founded in Berlin in 2013, stilnest started as one of the pioneering jewelry brands to counter mass-produced jewelry by focusing on slow craftsmanship and made-to-order jewelry. This means that they make each piece especially for you to follow a more resource-efficient path. Stilnest offers ear cuffs made from 24K gold vermeil and Rhodium-plated 925 silver, a high-quality and intricate process that uses a thicker layer of gold or rhodium compared to standard plated jewelry. When it comes to materials, stilnest works with up to five manufacturers and eight passionate goldsmiths, stone setters and casters to create your ear cuffs. The foundries are certified members of the “Responsible Jewellery Council”. The brand aims to inspire creativity and originality and believes that creativity thrives on the differences between people, diversity, collaboration, respect and inclusivity. About The Brand
MISSOMA is a jewelry company that works towards more sustainable practices and refuses to greenwash. All their gold vermeil, sterling silver, and solid gold jewelry is made from 100% recycled metals. Their website says: “six of our suppliers are Responsible Jewellery Council certified and source the gemstones we use responsibly. Our diamonds are all conflict-free and Kimberley Process approved.” They also add: “at this time it’s virtually impossible to know the exact mining information for each stone. One of our goals for 2023 is to map the supply chain for our gemstones so we have more visibility on where they are mined from.” We think it’s good that they are realistic and honest and don’t jump on the “greenwashing” bandwagon.
